Who am I? Who is this character that demands you read thoughts and ideas about his life? Well if you must know here is the short of it.
I am from Kansas City, Missouri. I lived in three different locations within the city in my time there. This is where I lived from my birth until third grade. Then we picked up and moved to a suburb in KC called Raytown. This was where I based my childhood adventures out of from the 3rd to the 8th grade. We explored the heck out of that place. A huge treehouse down the street, pond to fish and explore, plenty of “woods” to play army in. Many childhood adventures were had at this homestead. Then we picked up once more and moved here. Lee’s Summit is where I called home for my high school years. High School was a great four years. I found a great youth group that I became involved in. It is this time in my life that I really figured out what a relationship with God really looks like. I had a great mentor in my pastor that meant a lot to me. I also developed a friendship with a guy that would end up turning into more of a family member to me and my family. During high school I played football all four years and I threw the discus for two. I was not great at either but I loved it because of the friendships of my teammates. One of the best parts of my life in Lee’s Summit was the lake. We had lake property just a few minutes away from our house with a dock and a boat. My friends and I would spend our summers out there living and loving life on the lake. It is here where I developed a love for the lake and any activity where I am pulled behind a boat on some sort of device.
At the conclusion of my time in High School I decided to move on to the next phase of life: college. I decided to go to the University of Arkansas. This was an amazing decision. I spent 5 years in Fayetteville, AR. It is there where I was part of a group of men who started a christian fraternity called Beta Upsilon Chi, Brothers Under Christ. It is among these men where I found some of the best friends a guy can ask for. My last two years in college I moved into a duplex in a subdivision called The Meadowlands. This duplex consisted of two sides of 4 bedrooms each. We had 6 guys living on my side and 7 living on the other side, plus 4 of our female friends living in the house across the street. Needless to say we all had a blast together. Late night poker games, smoking cigars on the roof, pulling a canoe behind a truck in the snow, we had great times in that place. As the conclusion of my 5 years at the U of A came to a close I decided to marry the girl next door, literally, she lived across the street. A week after my graduation we got married, went on the honeymoon and then flew into our new home in Dallas, TX.
Upon arriving in Dallas I found a job looking at pictures of ATM’s for a while until I was hired by the Dallas Fire Department. My wife, who got her degree in nursing at the U of A, found a job at Baylor on the heart and lung transplant floor. After a year we were able to buy our own house which is where we currently reside.
That brings us to the current day. I just graduated from paramedic school and am now a full fledged firefighter/paramedic for the Dallas Fire Department. I love my job, it is seriously the best job in the world. I actually look forward to going to work in the morning, how many people do you know of like that? My wife and I have been married for 3 great years. We are loving living up the child free life for a while. However we do have a 1 year old yellow lab named Smokey who is a 80 pound ball of energy. Our house is a constant construction project. We are always finding things we want to do to upgrade it. It is fun learning random handyman skills on the fly. We are involved in a small group with our church where we have found a close group of friends with whom to share life with. Throughout every stage of life that is the one thing God has constantly blessed me with, good friends. We are truly blessed to have them in our life.
So there you have it. The short of it. Where God has sent me in my trek through life up to this point. I have been loving every minute of it and look forward to whatever more of it God lets me/us live.
